Car AC Repair in Raleigh, NC
North Carolina summers don't mess around. If your AC is blowing warm air, making strange noises, or not working at all, we'll find the problem and get you back to cold air fast. All makes, all models.
AC Services We Offer
Raleigh's Trusted Car AC Repair Shop
A broken AC in a Raleigh summer isn't a minor inconvenience — it's miserable. The problem with quick-fix AC recharge shops is that they top off the refrigerant without finding the leak. Two weeks later you're back to warm air and out another $150. We take a different approach: find the leak first, then fix it properly.
Our shop handles the full range of automotive AC service, from a simple recharge to compressor replacement and evaporator core jobs. Since the AC system shares components with your engine's cooling system, we check both during every service. We work with both R-134a and the newer R-1234yf refrigerants and have the recovery equipment for each. Whether your AC stopped blowing cold gradually or shut off overnight, we diagnose the root cause and give you a clear estimate.
- Electronic and UV dye leak detection — we find where the refrigerant is going
- R-134a and R-1234yf recharge with proper recovery equipment
- Compressor, condenser, and evaporator repair and replacement
- Blend door actuator and climate control diagnosis
- Honest estimate before work begins — no surprise charges
How Do You Know Your AC Needs Service?
Don't wait until the first heat wave. Catching these early saves money and keeps you comfortable.
Warm Air From Vents
What it means: Low refrigerant from a leak, a failed compressor, or a clogged expansion valve.
Urgency: Medium — schedule before summer peak. Will not improve on its own.
AC Works Then Stops
What it means: Compressor clutch cycling off due to low charge, a faulty pressure switch, or an electrical issue.
Urgency: Medium — intermittent problems get worse as temperatures rise.
Strange Noise When AC Is On
What it means: A failing compressor bearing, loose belt, or debris in the blower motor.
Urgency: Medium-High — a seized compressor can damage the serpentine belt and other components.
Musty Smell From Vents
What it means: Mold or bacteria growth on the evaporator core, usually from moisture that didn't drain properly.
Urgency: Low-Medium — not a mechanical failure, but a health concern. Evaporator cleaning resolves it.
Water Pooling on Passenger Floor
What it means: A clogged condensate drain line. The evaporator produces condensation that should drain outside the vehicle.
Urgency: Medium — water can damage carpet, electronics, and cause mold growth.
What AC Services Do We Offer?
From a quick recharge to a full system overhaul.
AC Recharge
We evacuate the old refrigerant, pull a vacuum to check for leaks, and recharge with the correct amount of R-134a or R-1234yf. A proper recharge includes checking system pressures, not just topping off until it feels cold. Typically runs $150-$250.
Leak Detection
We use electronic sniffers and UV dye to locate refrigerant leaks. Common leak points include O-ring seals, the condenser, evaporator core, and hose fittings. Finding the leak before recharging is what separates a real fix from a temporary patch.
Compressor Replacement
The compressor is the heart of the AC system. When it fails, there's no cold air. We replace the compressor, flush the system to remove debris from the old unit, replace the receiver-drier, and recharge. Typically $900-$2,000 depending on the vehicle.
Condenser Replacement
The condenser sits in front of the radiator and is vulnerable to road debris and corrosion. A leaking condenser can't be patched — it needs replacement. We also flush the system to remove any contaminants.
Evaporator Core Replacement
The evaporator sits inside the dash and is one of the more labor-intensive AC repairs. When it leaks, you lose refrigerant and may notice a sweet chemical smell inside the cabin. We access, replace, and reassemble with proper seal testing.
Blend Door Actuator
If your AC blows cold on one side and warm on the other, or only blows hot regardless of the temperature setting, the blend door actuator is likely failed. This is an electrical motor that controls airflow direction inside the dash. Our electrical diagnostics team traces these faults to the exact component.
Expansion Valve & Orifice Tube
These components regulate refrigerant flow into the evaporator. When they clog or fail, the AC either freezes the evaporator or blows warm. Replacement is done during a system service.
AC System Flush
After a compressor failure, metal shavings and debris circulate through the system. A flush clears contamination from the lines, condenser, and evaporator to protect the new compressor from premature failure.

What Raleigh Drivers Say About Us
Real experiences from real people.
Took my car in for a brake job and they were upfront about exactly what it needed — no upselling, no pressure. Fair price, done the same day. This is how a shop should be run.
Found these guys when my check engine light came on and every other shop was booked out a week. They got me in same day, diagnosed the issue, and had it fixed by the afternoon. Definitely coming back.
Honest mechanics who actually explain what's going on with your car. They showed me the worn parts, gave me options, and didn't push the most expensive fix. Refreshing experience.
AC Repair Costs, Timelines & What to Expect
Recharge (R-134a): $100–$212
Standard R-134a recharge costs $100–$212. Refrigerant is about $50/lb, labor adds $50–$100. Takes 30–75 minutes. Pre-2015 vehicles use this type.
R-1234yf Recharge: $250–$500+
Newer vehicles (2015+) use R-1234yf at $100–$150 per pound — three times R-134a cost. A recharge runs $250–$500+ at most shops.
Compressor: 4–6 Hours
AC compressor replacement takes 4–6 hours and costs $900–$2,000. The compressor is $650–$840. Evaporator replacement is the biggest job at 4–8 hours.
National Average: $650
The national average AC repair bill is $650. Simple recharges are well under that. Compressor and evaporator replacements push well above it.
Leak Test Before Recharge
A recharge without a leak test is a temporary fix. Leak detection costs $100–$400 but prevents paying for repeated recharges at $100–$500 each.
DIY Kits: $40–$130
DIY AC recharge kits cost $40–$130. They add refrigerant but cannot detect leaks, measure system pressure accurately, or evacuate moisture.
